Current Skincare Routine

Serious Face is Serious
I haven't had a picture of my face on the blog for a while, and there has been a variety of reasons for that, but I tweeted this - totally makeup free! - instragram picture of my mug the other day, and A Lot of people asked for details of my current skincare routine, so here it is.

From left to right, we have Nude Cleansing Oil, which is an old, old old favourite.  Whilst I might flirt with other cleansers (and I do), I always come back to this after my skin has had enough of the others.  I love it, even though the bottle is now only half the size it used to be.

After a long while of using very simple skincare, I'm adding back some active products, and these are my current picks:

111Skin Daily Orbit NAC Y2 Energising Youth Tonic (catchy title), which is from the new range very recently launched by Dr Yannis Alexandrides. Not - actually - a toner, this is actually a slightly viscous, highly moisturising liquid, that I use in place of toner, and as the start of my moisturising routine. It's cooling and soothing, and I love using it.  Also, the range has been tested in space.  How can anyone resist skincare that's been tested in space?  It's full of peptides and antioxidants, and my skin loves this.  I have a sample of the serum too, which I've not used yet, but I'll bring you a full review of both products when I have used it.  111Skin is available from Harrods.

Speaking of science and stuff, next up is Astalift Aquarysta, which is another very recently launched product, this time from Fujifilm.  Yes, you read that right.  FujiFILM.  Astalift Aquarysta is a beautiful coral-red jelly, which is, again, packed with antioxidants and, this time also with collagen.  Apparently collagen is a staple of the (non-digital) film industry, and Fujifilm has invested some of their years and years of collagen research into skincare.  I've found that this jelly - used as a serum in the mornings - immediately smoothes and leaves skin feeling plump, soft and velvety.  I love it.  Time will tell if has any long-term benefits, but at the moment, this is unqualified love.  I want a BIGGER JAR. Aqualift Aquarysta is available from Debenhams.

At the moment, I'm also trialling Kate Somerville Nourish Daily Moisturiser, I've literally just finished my jar of Kate's Goat Cream, but it was beginning to feel a little too heavy for summer, so I've swapped to this lighter, more balancing formulation from the range.  It's cooling and refreshing, and doesn't leave a greasy film.

And finally, two nights a week, I've brought the Alpha H Liquid Gold back.  I stopped using it last year, because my skin was going through one of its frequent crazy periods where nothing suited it, and I just got out of the habit.  Now, I look forward to my "Alpha H nights", and I'm a-tingle with anticipation ....

What's your current regime?

  1. I love a post like this, am off to work in about 5mins but had to take a quick look. Totally agree that sometimes one needs to tone it down a bit and cut out all the actives. Your skin is beautiful, some great tempting ranges here. Thanks for this.

    1. Thanks, Jan! Considering my age, I don't think my skin is too bad! No botox, no fillers, no resurfacing here ...

  2. Love this post. I desperately want to try Kate Sommervile Nourish cream for my oily, acne prone, dehydrated face....yuck. I can't find it anywhere?? :-(

Did you make a post about your simplified routine? I'd be really interested to read it as my skin often goes crazy and can suddenly react to "actives"

    1. I swear by Avene when I'm having a flare up, Helen, and, for preventing flare ups long term, I used a lot of Darphin last year. Their Intral toner is marvellous for soothing upset skin.

  3. I've only just started a proper skincare routine, and have opted for more affordable high street products:

    Mornings:
    1. Garnier Youthful Radiance - I use this on my neck; it smells refreshing and is easy to absorb.
    2. No.7 Calm Skin (Redness-Relief Balm) - I use this as a moisturiser before putting on make-up, focusing on the inner cheeks, chin & forehead, which are prone to redness. It absorbs really well, and after two weeks, I think there is around a 15% reduction in my usual skin redness.

    Nights:
    1. Soap & Glory Night Cream in Shining Armour - I use this on my face and neck. It's a very creamy moisturiser, and leaves my skin lovely and smooth. I haven't noticed any reduction in wrinkles, though.
    2. Avon Anew Clinical Eye Lift - This comes with two parts, a gel for your eyelid and an under-eye cream. I have certainly noticed an improvement in lift on my eyelid, but no visible effects from the under eye cream.
    3. Umberto Gianni Overnight Magic Hair Repair - Although this has a very strong Bergamot smell (which I don't like), I have noticed that my hair seems strengthened and more nourished, after using this cream for the last month.
    4. Dove Regenerating Night Hand Cream - I keep this on my bedside table and make it the last thing I do before going to sleep - it's certainly improved the skin texture of my hands, and they appear younger and smoother.

The only product of the above I think I will definitely continue to use is the Avon Eye Lift gel, having seen marked results. If anyone has a suggestion for a great product to remove under-eye bags and dark circles, please let me know!

  4. Skincare in space. That's got to be a winner! Love posts like this!

Me: morning - La Roche Posay cleansing water, Boots protect and perfect eye cream, Clinique Even Better serum and lotion. Evening: Hot cloth cleanse with Dermalogica Ultra Calming, EL ANR eye serum, Clinique Even Better serum and Jurlique night cream.

    1. Also a nice routine! Personally, I can't use the Clinique and Estee Lauder products - which are brilliant, but are just *too* active for my mental skin - but I like the addition of an organic night cream there.

  6. I was a bit disappointed last time I purchased liquid gold but your skin looks fantastic so might give it another go. I did a skin post yesterday and I'm loving La Roche Posay at the moment especially the Hydreane Riche moisturiser!

  7. Hi Louise. I know I'm very late to the the party here, but I'm just wondering how you got on the the Kate Somerville Nourish? I'm using the Goat Milk cream at the moment, and my skin loves it, but it does feel a bit heavy. Is the Nourish as good, or should I stick with Goat Milk?

I did mention to you before about Essential Day Spa selling Kate Somerville, but they don't seem to be stocking it any more. :( I'm getting a shopping buddy from Canada to send me some!
